Hares: Toto for SBD who set the run

NEW YEARS EVE, 2003 – DOWN DOWNS led by KLINGON

Visitors:  Dribbles from Katherine H3. Returning Runner: XR8D. Ann told us about the run: In Absentia it was fabulous. GG piped up: Too many hills, no drink stops. Score out of 71: Toto – minus 7 because SBD wasn’t here. Special Runs Ending in zero: Punch & Kokup – 30, Stuck On – 140

Charges from the run: Toto & XR8D – for leading the runners down Pin Oak Street. On Yer Bike – waiting for the walkers to indicate the route ahead. Toto – too happy with her squirter. Stuck On – somebody who came to the run in bare feet. Kokup – being to lazy too carry the keys and keeping everyone waiting for a drink. Dribbles & Kokup – Youngest and eldest of their family.

Charges after the Run: Nephertits – for stopping to smell the roses, which earned him an impromptu down down outside the Safeway front door.

Run Summary: The Baker’s Dozen set out up Mt Alexander Rd from Bella Vita Pizza Restaurant and hit the first falsie before we crossed and went up a side street and across Ascot Vale Rd.  Then we ran through the streets of Ascot Vale to the Station, where the pack was held up until Point Post found the trail through the railway underpass.  The trail led past the skate park and back onto Ascot Vale Rd, across the Show Grounds railway, then into Newmarket through a few more back streets.  On On along Racecourse Rd, past the shops, under the railway bridge and turned left into Pin Oak Cr. and onto Wellington St which took us up to Mt Alexander Rd where we crossed at the lights and on home.

Several police cars gave us some funny looks, including one driving towards the city with 6 officers in the vehicle not 5. Rolf Harris thought they needed a bigger budget. We hurried on home to the pizza shop. The pack adjourned to a well earned drink in a back lane before heading in to a delicious dinner of yummy pizzas, chicken wings and salad. We were joined by Mrs. Boner and toasted in the New Year a little early, but with gusto and champagne.  More drinks and the circle followed in the back lane before it was ON ON for drinks and nibblies at Toto’s house where Alice share her apple chips.  Boner then guided the entourage to observe the city fireworks from the Highpoint Hill amid great cheers, songs, waving of glittering sparklers and guzzling of even more champagne.

Happy and prosperous New Year to all
