The run was a long one. The hashers left around 6:45pm and returned around 8:15pm. The run was interspersed with lots of on-backs, false trails, and checks. This kept the pack together, although at times, the pack got a little cold waiting at a couple of checks as they were more a challenge to find. The trail adopted what was obviously a “Baldricks cunning plan”. Making use of the natural features and obstacles, the trail was basically divided into four sections by the Yarra River and Bridge Road. The trail could only be described as mischievous, as three times, we passed within a couple hundred metres of the pub.
We started into the NW section going through the back streets, close to the Mountain Goat Brewery, past the TOPLESS PUB that GG, Mummies Boy, Simon (Generic hasher), and Point Post had to investigate. The trail then continued along the Yarra and back to the bridge at Bridge Road. At that point, we came across Rolf Harris who was perversely enjoying the torture that she was inflicting upon the hash. Over the bridge we crossed the Yarra River into Hawthorn and were given a magnificent tour of some of the finest houses in Melbourne. Making use of the natural obstacles again, we cunningly avoided crossing the trail by going UNDER the original trail. A cruel on-back was located here and several hashers were punished for their enthusiasm with a long uphill stretch.
Crossing the bridge again for what was surely the final steps home, we were taken for another tour of false trails through Richmond again. We ended up in the backyard of Rolf Harriss for a well-earned GREEK DRINKSTOP. There was beer, ginger ale, retsina, hot Greek breads fresh from the oven, olives, and Greek music. There was even a pergola with an ancient grapevine to add to the feel. With all this Greek theme being passed on, is this perhaps a subtle hint from Rolf Harris that SHE LIKES IT GREEK???
After eating way too much food for a drinkstop, I decided that it was time to return to the Porterhouse Steak that the hotel chef was nursing for me. Having returned to the pub, we waited a while for our drinks. As usual, I find this to serve the benefit of only making the beer taste even better. The food was generally acceptable, with a couple of complaints of burnt schnitzels and what was supposed to be a RARE Steak turned into an Incan sacrifice. Yet again, another true hash venue continuing in the tradition of our Hash Forefathers.
Summation Good length run, challenging trail, TOPLESS PUB, false trails, pack kept together, GREEK STYLE ENTERTAINMENT, and grumpy girl behind the bar.
